Representing Mexico, Rosarito swimmer Maximiliano Vega Cuevas won the bronze medal at the Junior Pan American Games held in Asunción, Paraguay.

With a time of 4:22.24 minutes, the 22-year-old took third place in the men’s 400-meter individual medley, finishing behind only the Brazilian competitors.

Vega Cuevas began training at age nine at the high-performance aquatic center led by coach Erick Galván. From his early days with the Rosarito Nadadores club, he stood out for his dedication and discipline.

At the 2018 National Olympics, he captured four gold medals and was named the most valuable swimmer in his category. In a previous edition, he became the top national medalist with a total of 10 medals (seven gold and three silver).

In 2025, he added a silver medal in the 200-meter backstroke while competing at the collegiate level as part of the Texas A&M team, where he has consistently recorded strong times in breaststroke, butterfly, and individual medley events.

On the international stage, Vega Cuevas qualified for the Junior Open Water World Championships in Mahé, Seychelles, competing in the 10-kilometer race in the 18–19 age group. In 2024, he earned a spot at the Junior Swimming World Championships in Budapest, Hungary, where he competed in the 200- and 400-meter individual medley.

His achievements also include a gold medal at the 2024 National Junior Championship and a national junior record in the 200-meter butterfly.
