Rosarito surfer Israel Rosas won gold and silver medals to lead Baja California’s surfing team at the 2026 National CONADE Games in Sayulita.
Competing in the boys 17-18 division, Rosas captured gold in the open surfing event before adding a silver medal in shortboard, completing one of the competition’s strongest individual performances.
“I still can’t believe it,” Rosas said. “I came here determined to compete and represent Baja California in the best way possible. This gold means a lot because it’s the result of countless hours in the water, training and sacrifice. I’m very grateful to my coach, my family and everyone who has supported me along the way.”
Competing under coach Jesús Velázquez, Rosas earned both medals at the national event, which brought together the country’s top youth surfers in Sayulita.
Baja California also earned a bronze medal from Paula Valles of Ensenada, who placed third in the girls 17-18 bodyboard competition. Her finish marked the state’s first surfing medal of this year’s National CONADE Games.
Baja California finished the surfing competition with one gold, one silver and one bronze medal.
