After a long athletic journey that began at just four years old in Rosarito’s baseball leagues, Carlos García Guzmán made the leap to the professional global stage in 2025 by signing  this month with the Major League Baseball team, the Toronto Blue Jays.

The 17-year-old Rosarito native turned his dream into reality through discipline, hard work, and preparation, supported by a dedicated team of professionals, his family, and especially his grandfather, Andrés Guzmán, who inspired him to persevere.

Carlos’s journey is a source of motivation for future generations, showcasing the determination required to reach the pinnacle of athletic achievement.

He developed an interest in baseball at the age of three, playing in Rosarito’s local leagues. By eight, he had transitioned to Tijuana leagues, where his skills flourished. By 16, he had amassed state, national, and even world championships.

“When I turned 13, I started training more intensely, and at 14, I took my first solo trip, far from my family. I remember wanting to return home after just two days. Then, at 15, I signed with the Guerreros de Oaxaca in 2021. In December of that same year, I got the news that I was confirmed with the Toronto Blue Jays,” he shared.

In 2022, Carlos joined the Oaxaca academy with renewed motivation, and by 2023, he advanced to the Monterrey-based academy El Carmen with the development team, finishing his season with a .280 batting average.

That same year, he was invited to play the winter season with the Guerreros de Oaxaca.

“I was a little nervous but also motivated, knowing that not many kids my age would dare to stay far from home. I didn’t play much, but I made the most of the opportunities I got. On May 31, 2024, I debuted with the Guerreros de Oaxaca’s main team, one of my biggest achievements as a player.

“In September 2024, I was invited to preseason training with the Obregón team, where I learned a lot from coaches and players like Santiago Chávez, Néstor Ríos, Carlos Ureña, and Luis Cessa, who helped me improve both as a player and as a person.”

“Later that month, I was called by the Diablos Rojos to participate in a Development Academy in Mazatlán. I performed well there and became the league’s batting champion with an average of .403,” wrote the young Rosarito talent.

On Jan. 23, 2025, Carlos received the most important news of his life: his official signing with the Toronto Blue Jays.
