Sally Karenina Salas García, a Rosarito native and member of the Madrugadores group, is making history in the fashion world, winning prestigious haute couture competitions across Europe.oo
Her latest success came a month and a half ago at the “Premio Moda” in Matera, Italy, where her vibrant, sustainable designs won her an award.
Competing against 15 internationally renowned designers, Salas García brought recognition to Mexico by emerging as one of the top winners.
This was her fourth time competing in a high-fashion event in Italy, making her the first Mexican designer to win a prize at this prestigious runway.
“I’ve received many invitations since my first time attending these events,” shared Salas García, who has also walked in Milan and Sicily, with further invitations to fashion shows in Paris and other European cities. Fortunately, I’ve won each time.”
To fully embrace the Italian fashion scene, she even learned Italian.
Her next appearance will be at the sustainable fashion event “Forever Green” in Costa Rica, and next year, she’ll travel to Dubai in the United Arab Emirates to participate in another international event featuring designers from 30 countries.
Salas García is competing in the emerging designer category, as her haute couture career began only two years ago, though her love for sewing dates back to childhood.
“I spent most of my life working in advertising and marketing, but I always loved sewing,” she said. “When the pandemic hit, I decided to change paths.
“That’s how my brand started—I began creating clothes, selling to people I knew, online… then I did four shows in Tijuana, and soon after, I was invited to Italy. I went, learned Italian, and all this has happened in just two years.”
She holds a degree in Graphic Design, speaks four languages, and has two master’s degrees—one in International Marketing and another in Social Psychology.
