Approximately 4,000 cyclists traveled the 50 miles of open road during the fall edition of the Rosarito-Ensenada Bike Ride on the morning of Saturday, Sept. 28.
The event kicked off at Boulevard Benito Juárez, near the Rosarito Beach Hotel, and concluded at the Coastal Boulevard in Ensenada, where participants were greeted with a celebration.
Organizer Claudia Ley said they are celebrating the 45th anniversary of the event, which has seen around 88 editions, typically held twice a year: in spring and fall.
Participants included cyclists from various states in Mexico, as well as from southern California, along with registrations from Colombia, Brazil, and Peru.
The main challenge was ensuring that authorities recognized the importance of the event and the economic impact it generates for the coastal areas, including Tijuana, Rosarito, and Ensenada.
This fall edition surpassed the previous attendance record, as around 3,000 cyclists participated in the last event. Ley noted that cyclist turnout can depend on various factors, including insecurity that deters participants from the United States.
Guillermo Rodriguez, the founder of the event, highlighted the support of the State Secretary of Tourism, Miguel Aguiñiga, for his collaboration in resuming this edition of the Rosarito-Ensenada Bike Ride, facilitating dialogue with municipal authorities of the IX Rosarito City Council.
