Events set as the resort nears centennial
ROSARITO, BAJA CALIFORNIA, MEXICO—The three towers in the Rosarito Beach Hotel & Spa contain 28 stories. But the resort that houses them, which turns 100 this July 27, contains millions.
That’s as many as there have been guests and visitors. Many more people will add their stories during this year’s centennial events, including:

“It’s a memorable occasion for us, one that not many businesses reach,” said Hugo Antonio Torres, president of the board of the iconic resort. “We hope that many who have helped us reach this milestone join us in its celebration.”
What was then a 10-room roadhouse announced its grand opening on July 27, 1924. Now the Rosarito Beach Hotel & Spa, it has grown to Baja’s largest and best known beachfront resort, with 500 rooms and suites.
Once it was like a Hollywood South with guests including Rita Hayworth, Kim Novak, Orson Wells, Vincent Price, Kirk Douglas and many scores more. Many landed in small planes on the hotel’s private runway. Name a star of the era and they perhaps were there.
Robert Redford, using a pseudonym, stayed for weeks in a the resort’s 17-story Pacifico Tower while filming a 2012 movie at nearby Fox Studios, enjoying daily breakfasts in the hotel’s Azteca restaurant.
World leaders have visited, and a ghost reportedly once stubbornly occupied a suite, since demolished,
Their stories are among those that have been created, told and retold in the resort’s 100 years. Millions more visitors from the United States, Mexico and around the world also have added their stories to them.
