Six lifeguard towers are now active around the beach. Although the structures have been painted, they have once again been vandalized with graffiti.
However, a project is underway to paint murals on them, giving the towers a renewed image.
“It’s a good idea because painting murals gives the towers a new perspective and a different view of the beach,” said a spokesperson. “These would be created by a local artist. We like the idea and are looking into whether it can be done soon, but it all involves a cost,”
The active lifeguard towers are located at the pier, near the clubs, the Municipal DIF parking lot, in the Villas neighborhood, near Pelícanos restaurant, and at the canal.
The spokesperson highlighted that flags in red, green, and yellow are strategically installed to indicate the sea conditions and whether they are safe for recreation.
“It’s like a traffic light; we install them so people can approach and ask confidently. We continuously provide warnings, patrols, and surveillance to ensure a safe experience for beachgoers.”
People are advised to avoid visiting beaches near the city, such as the northern area adjacent to the Thermoelectric Plant and Playa El Bebe. In the southern area, they should avoid the beach adjacent to Rancho Evelia, Popotla, and cliff areas.
