Opera lovers will have a chance to experience the creative process behind one of Baja California’s premier vocal music festivals when the third Rosarito Opera Workshop and the 14th annual Opera by the Sea festival return to CEART Playas de Rosarito this summer.

From July 25-31, the State Center for the Arts (CEART) will open rehearsals, master classes and other activities to the public, offering visitors a behind-the-scenes look at the festival as more than 45 singers from Mexico and Puerto Rico work alongside renowned vocal coaches and guest artists.

The festival will conclude Aug. 1 with its signature Opera by the Sea performance, accompanied by musical presentations from participants, food offerings and a festive atmosphere celebrating the weeklong event. Admission is free.

Marco Antonio Nuño Sánchez, coordinator of CEART Playas de Rosarito, said this year’s festival received funding through the Mexican Ministry of Culture’s PROFEST 2026 Cultural and Arts Festivals Support Program, allowing organizers to expand the event and bring in internationally recognized instructors.

“We were selected through a competitive funding process, which is something to celebrate because very few festivals receive this support,” Nuño said. “With these additional resources, we’ve been able to invite teachers and artists of the caliber of María Katzarava, Carlos Arturo Galván, Dr. Rocío Tamez, Ramón Verdugo and Daniel Rojo, among others.”

The theme of this year’s festival is “From the Deep Ocean to the Shores of the Soul.” The Aug. 1 performance begins at 4 p.m. at CEART Playas de Rosarito.

Nuño said highlights of the program will include selections from Puccini’s Madama Butterfly and Verdi’s Otello, along with additional performances that will round out the festival’s closing celebration.
