Around 3,000 cyclists took part in the annual “Pedaleando 2.0” charity ride, organized by the Castro Limón Foundation to raise funds for the treatment of children battling cancer.

The event kicked off at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 11, in front of the Rosarito Beach Hotel, with participants covering 85 kilometers along the free highway to Playa Hermosa in Ensenada, where they were welcomed with a lively community celebration.

According to José Cleofas Arreola, president of the Castro Limón Foundation Board, this marks the second edition of the cycling event in 2025.

Our goal is to continue funding treatments for children,” Arreola said. “It costs about one million pesos a year to treat a single child. We are currently caring for 92 children, and over 23 years, we’ve helped 132 young patients recover—without their families paying a single peso. Each receives full medical, psychological, emotional, and spiritual support. Castro Limón operates its own hospital, which has the highest leukemia survival rate in Mexico. Events like this one bring joy while showcasing Rosarito’s beauty — from the ocean to the valleys.”

The organization aims to raise at least one million pesos through this event — enough to cover the treatment of one child for a year.

The symbolic start for elite cyclists was given by World Racquetball Champion Rosy Torres Ramírez, representing the Rosarito Beach Hotel as one of the event’s main sponsors.

“On behalf of the Rosarito Beach Hotel, we thank all the riders who joined this noble cause,” she said. “As athletes, we know the effort this takes — let’s continue supporting this tremendous and meaningful mission. Congratulations to everyone, and thank you!”

Francisco Carrasco, director of the Municipal Sports Institute, also participated in the event and praised the dedication of all involved.

“You are all examples of positive action,” he said. “Civil organizations like the Castro Limón Foundation play a vital role in our communities, providing essential treatments for our children.”

He concluded with an inspiring message that drew applause from participants:

An athlete is a person who is physically capable, biologically defined, mentally balanced, and morally indestructible.”
