A man of few words who led by example through hard work and deep love for his family—this is how José de Jesús González González, better known as “Pepe Gonson,” is remembered. He was the founder of one of Rosarito’s most iconic local businesses, Ropa y Uniformes Gonsons.

On the afternoon of Monday, January 5, family and friends gathered at the Parish of Our Lady of the Rosary of Fatima to honor his life and legacy during a funeral Mass.

During the service, Father Rubén Betancourt encouraged those in attendance to remember the good deeds of José de Jesús and to give thanks to God for granting him a life that extended beyond 80 years.

The vicar reminded the congregation that death is not the end. For believers and those who place their faith in God, he said, death is the doorway to heaven and to eternity, emphasizing the immortality of the soul.

“Your family was blessed to spend Christmas with him,” Father Betancourt shared, encouraging everyone to follow Mr. González’s example and to thank God for the life He gave him.

At the close of the service, his eldest son, Pepe, expressed gratitude to all who attended and delivered a moving message in remembrance of his father.

“My dad was a man of few words, but his love was always felt—in his presence, in his perseverance, and in his quiet way of caring for and loving our family… in getting up every day and never giving up, even when he chose silence. Today we hurt, but that pain comes from love, from knowing how deeply we were loved by him. Dad lives on in us, in our values, in our decisions, and in the way we take care of our own.”

The parish was filled with family members and friends who came together to say goodbye and honor the life of a beloved Rosarito businessman and community figure.
