Rosarito saw a major boost in tourism during Labor Day weekend, with hotel occupancy reaching near-capacity levels across the city.

According to the Mexican Association of Hotels and Motels in Playas de Rosarito, average hotel occupancy over the holiday period reached 88%, nearly identical to last year’s numbers. Occupancy stood at 79% on Friday, hit 100% on Saturday, and closed at 86% on Sunday.

The average daily room rate ranged from $150 to $159. In 2024, occupancy averaged 89%—73% on Friday, 100% on Saturday, and 93% on Sunday—with daily rates ranging from $125 to $147. Overall, year-over-year hotel occupancy dipped by one percentage point, while lodging revenue fell 3.5%.

Restaurants in the city’s tourist zone also saw strong crowds throughout the weekend, reflecting the influx of visitors. However, on Popotla’s Artisan Boulevard, economic activity remained sluggish. Business owners there expressed hope that the seasonal spikes, combined with word-of-mouth promotion from visitors returning home, will help drive future recoveries in the local economy.
