In an effort to provide a recreational and therapeutic space for patients of the Basic Rehabilitation Unit (UBR), the DIF Municipal Board is working on fundraising projects to carry out key improvements at the facility.
Architect Aziel Adame, president of the DIF Municipal Board, explained that two projects are being planned: the creation of a motor rehabilitation circuit and upgrades to the center’s outdoor area.
The “walking education circuit” is a crucial part of physical rehabilitation, Adame said, as therapists work with patients using a variety of steps, railings, and textured surfaces designed to help them regain mobility.
The second project focuses on improving the outdoor space to make it more welcoming and therapeutic. “When you face a physical condition, it also impacts your emotional health. Having an open-air area to spend time in before therapy helps patients begin their sessions with a better mindset,” she noted.
Currently, DIF Municipal has an agreement with the State that allows them to serve 25 patients each month. However, demand in Rosarito is much higher. To address this, DIF’s Taxi program helps transport patients to other facilities when appointments at UBR are unavailable.
Adame emphasized that the center already has excellent therapists and the necessary infrastructure to continue expanding. Among the long-term goals is the addition of two new consultation rooms.
“We have a building with great potential, but it’s poorly distributed. The facilities are well-equipped, but we need adjustments. If we want to expand our services, we need more consultation rooms. Our goal is to grow from three to five,” she said.
