Mayor Rocío Adame Muñoz handed over seven newly built homes to families who lost their houses in recent fires in the hillside community of Primo Tapia.

The concrete homes were built by Rosarito’s Urban Development Agency with a municipal investment of 3.6 million pesos (about $200,000). Each unit includes a small room with a fully equipped bathroom, basic utilities, and a water heater. In addition, two other households received support to upgrade their properties with new bathrooms.

Mayor Adame Muñoz personally delivered the keys during a formal ceremony on Monday, August 25. She highlighted the role of the Primo Tapia Ejido (communal landholders), which granted legal recognition to the plots after convening a special assembly. The recognition was necessary since the lots were not originally included in ejido land plans.

“We needed the Ejido’s acknowledgment because the plots were not formally delimited,” she explained. “They amended their land maps to recognize possession of these properties and issued letters confirming ownership for the families.”

During the handover, Mayor Adame urged the beneficiaries to learn from the devastating fires and take precautions to prevent similar tragedies in the future.

The families expressed gratitude to the mayor for keeping her promise to help them rebuild their homes and secure their livelihoods.
