After five years of restrictions and harassment under the previous administration, ride-hailing platforms Uber and Didi are now officially authorized to operate in Rosarito, according to confirmation from the Baja California Institute of Sustainable Mobility (IMOS).

Didi is already active in the area, and Uber is expected to launch its services before the Baja Beach Fest in August. Additionally, Uber Eats is preparing to begin operations in Rosarito, aiming to support the city’s restaurant industry. Jorge Gutiérrez Tinoco, director of IMOS, stated that Mayor Rocio Adame has guaranteed an end to the persecution and harassment previously experienced by drivers for these platforms.

“Uber requested a Zoom meeting with the mayor, and we had it. There had been a long-standing history of Uber and Didi drivers being harassed, but the mayor assured them this will no longer be the case,” said Gutiérrez Tinoco. He emphasized that since 2018, both platforms had faced bans due to ongoing conflicts with local transportation unions and a lack of proper regulation.

“Uber also brought up the idea of launching Uber Eats, which is great news for the food and beverage sector in Playas de Rosarito. Didi Foods is also expected to arrive soon, and Uber Eats will be announcing its launch date shortly.”

The regulation and integration of these app-based transportation services have been welcomed by various sectors of Rosarito’s economy, especially as the city prepares to host the 2025 Tianguis Turístico—a major tourism trade event expected to attract industry professionals from around the world.
