In an effort to strengthen security in businesses, the Citizen Security Secretariat has launched the “Safe Commerce” program, aimed at equipping workers with the tools and knowledge to prevent and effectively respond to emergencies.
Through dynamic presentations led by emergency prevention and response specialists—including paramedics, Civil Protection personnel, and firefighters—workers received comprehensive training on various security topics and incident response protocols.
The event was led by Citizen Security Secretary Héctor Manzo Ruvalcaba on the morning of Tuesday, Feb. 18, at Hacienda Badú restaurant, which served as both the host and an active participant in these training efforts.
“The goal of this program is to provide merchants with the necessary knowledge and tools to handle emergency situations, identify potentially dangerous behaviors, and know how to respond,” stated Manzo Ruvalcaba.
He also emphasized the importance of surveillance cameras, noting their crucial role in investigations and case follow-ups.
“Business security cameras are extremely helpful. While we can’t predict emergencies, these cameras greatly aid in investigations. It’s important for business owners to cooperate when the authorities request footage to help resolve cases,” he added.
The event began with Christian Pérez, from the Preventive Programs Division of the Citizen Security Secretariat, who explained the importance of immediate response protocols and provided recommendations on how to identify and report suspicious individuals in businesses.
He also encouraged merchants to connect their security cameras to the C5 monitoring system to enhance business security.
“This is a joint effort with the State Government to raise awareness in the community. Business owners who wish to have their cameras monitored by C5—without any manipulation, only overseeing exterior areas—are welcome to join. Not all cameras can be connected, but those interested can reach out to C5 to evaluate their eligibility,” Pérez stated.
