As part of its mission to raise awareness about responsible pet ownership and adoption, the civil organization Voluntariado Rosarito commissioned artists Laura L. Hoffmann and Rocio Hoffmann Silva to create an interactive mural at the Municipal Shelter in the Morelos neighborhood.
This initiative aims to draw attention to the shelter, located on the outskirts of the city, where dozens of rescued or abandoned dogs find refuge.
Liz López, spokesperson for Voluntariado Rosarito, shared that the organization has begun showcasing adoptable pets on social media, encouraging families to give these animals a second chance at life. She also urged community members to support rehabilitation activities, such as taking dogs on walks to help them regain trust in people.
For those unable to adopt, López called on the public to contribute through donations for spay/neuter programs and pet food, which directly benefit the animals at the shelter or in foster care.
Artist Rocio Hoffmann Silva explained that the mural prominently features a mixed-breed dog, symbolizing the strays that are often overlooked for adoption due to misconceptions. She emphasized that these dogs are affectionate, healthy, and deeply loyal.
Hoffmann also invited the community to visit the mural and take a photo for the chance to win a painting she created.
The contest, titled The Most Pawesome Photo, requires participants to support the shelter by donating pet food, cleaning supplies, cages, or other items. Contest details are available on the Voluntariado Rosarito Facebook page.
