Modern, electric, and eco-friendly carriages will soon replace the recently discontinued horse-drawn calandrias, according to Mayor Rocío Adame Muñoz.

This decision follows the approval of a new State Animal Protection Law, which led to the official ban on horse-drawn carriages.

“The animal welfare movement is gaining momentum,” said Mayor Adame Muñoz, emphasizing her administration’s commitment to this cause.

She highlighted ongoing collaboration with Governor Marina del Pilar to establish an animal sanctuary.

In addition, the mayor announced plans to repurpose the former dog pound in the Morelos neighborhood, transforming it into a humane care center for dogs and cats.

The facility will include cremation services and comprehensive care for pets.

Regarding the calandrias, Adame Muñoz confirmed that electric carriages would soon be operational, describing this shift as a significant step toward modernization.

“We’ve been working closely with the families who operated the horse-drawn carriages to transition away from the use of mistreated horses,” she stated.

The mayor highlighted these initiatives as key achievements during her first 100 days in office and celebrated the positive response from residents, who have been taking advantage of early payment discounts to fulfill their tax obligations.
