On Dec. 13, engineer Harry Heeks, a Rosarito resident at heart with a remarkable career in scenic design for films shot worldwide, passed away. Among his achievements, his work on the set of Titanic, filmed in Rosarito, stands out as a highlight.
Harry Lawrence Jack Heeks was born on July 17, 1936, in Balham, London, England, to Olive Iris Heeks and George Joseph Heeks, both florists. Sadly, his mother passed away when Harry was only four years old. He was raised by his father, George, and his stepmother, Elsie.
At 16, Harry met his future wife and the mother of his four daughters, Elizabeth. He was a proud father to Iris, Debbie, Lisa, and Tracy, who survive him, along with his 11 grandchildren.
At the age of 55, Harry moved to the United States to pursue his passion for cinema. He contributed to many globally renowned films, including In Dreams, Deep Blue Sea, Master and Commander, Troy, Munich, and Pearl Harbor.
Harry’s career flourished in Rosarito, where he is best remembered for his exceptional work on the movie Titanic. His expertise made him an influential figure in the film industry.
Later in life, Harry married Julia Hinestrosa and chose to retire in Baja California, a place where his accomplishments brought immense pride to his family and friends.
