The Rosarito Red Cross delivers approximately 420 ambulance services each month. While these services are free for citizens, the organization incurs an operational cost of about 1,400 pesos per service, covered entirely by the institution.
Sergio Conrado Hernández Tovalín, president of the Rosarito Red Cross, shared this information during the 2024 Holiday Bazaar, an event held to benefit the organization.
“For those who ask why the Red Cross charges fees: ambulance services are free thanks to donations made during the payment of property taxes, vehicle registration, and licenses, as well as support from events like this,” Hernández Tovalín explained.
He clarified that a recovery fee is charged for other medical services, such as clinic visits. “When patients are brought to the clinic, there is a fee—although it’s very affordable compared to private facilities—because we need to purchase supplies and materials like gauze, medication, and more,” he noted.
Medical consultations, which also come with a small fee, are available at the downtown headquarters from 8am to 9pm. Ambulance services, however, are available 24/7 at the three Red Cross locations: Benito Juárez in Plan Libertador, downtown Rosarito, and Primo Tapia.
Currently, the Rosarito Red Cross works tirelessly to meet the city’s ambulance demands, being the only medical institution offering this service.
“We don’t let our guard down. Ambulance services are our top priority, as the Red Cross responds to 90% of requests. The remaining 10% are handled by CAPUFE along the scenic highway,” Hernández Tovalín added.
He urged the community to continue supporting the Red Cross through donations made when renewing licenses and plates, as well as during property tax payments.
“Say yes to the donation—it’s a contribution that makes a real difference. The State Government ensures that the funds are delivered promptly because it’s a donation from the citizens, not the government. When paying your property taxes, tell the cashier you’d like to donate 20 pesos. Additionally, please support other fundraising events organized by the Red Cross,” he encouraged.
