A memorial mass celebrating the life of businessman and former mayor Hugo Eduardo Torres (Chabert) was held at the Rosarito Beach Hotel Chapel.

The service was attended by his children, wife, grandchildren, friends, and staff from the iconic hotel. Mr. Torres died in October at the age of 88.

During the Eucharistic celebration, Father Higinio García reflected on how his own life was intertwined with the Rosarito Beach Hotel, as his father once worked there.

He shared a hopeful message: “Life does not end; it transforms. As the prayer says, when our earthly dwelling dissolves, an eternal home in heaven awaits us.”

Hugo Antonio Torres (Ramírez), Hugo Torres’ eldest son, expressed gratitude to the friends and hotel employees who came to honor his father, as well as for their prayers for his eternal rest.

“To me, as his eldest son, my father was much more: he was a teacher, a guide, and a leader. Walking alongside him, I learned invaluable lessons. Thanks to him, I understood the meaning of dedication, effort, perseverance, and commitment.

“His life was a testament to tireless work, love for family, and total devotion to his projects, always seeking the well-being of others,” he said.

Mr. Torres noted that in his later years, his father stepped away from work to rest and enjoy his retirement. “We knew he was no longer involved in the business, but his presence gave us strength. Knowing he was there gave us confidence,” he said.

He emphasized that the best way to honor his father’s memory is to continue his legacy, uphold his values, and strive to grow what he built with dedication and effort.

“His beloved Rosarito, his cherished Rosarito Beach Hotel, and all the people who stood by his side—these were the treasures of his life. Dad, your absence is felt in every corner of the Rosarito Hotel, but your memory gives us the strength to move forward. In every memory and every lesson, you remain alive in our hearts.”

He concluded his heartfelt message by thanking everyone present, noting that their support and presence were a source of comfort and strength.

After the mass, live music, including mariachi and trío performances—favorites of Hugo Torres—added a personal touch to the tribute.
