With a time of one hour and three minutes, Daniel Valdez from Mexicali claimed victory in the 2024 Rosarito-Puerto Nuevo Half Marathon, followed by local runner Pablo Gerardo González, who completed the course in one hour and eleven minutes. In third place was Richer Pérez, with a time of one hour and fourteen minutes.
The event organizers awarded cash prizes to the top three finishers and commemorative medals to the first 50 participants in each category to cross the finish line. Medals were also given to all runners who successfully completed the 21-kilometer route.
While no major incidents were reported during the race, several runners noted areas for improvement. One of the main concerns was the lack of safety in the final kilometer before entering Puerto Nuevo, where participants had to navigate through traffic.
Some runners suggested improvements such as providing medals to all participants, as well as improving the quality of the medals, with some feeling that the designs were too simple for an event of this magnitude. Additionally, many expressed that it would have been helpful to have clear signage or barriers near the finish line and hotel entrance to guide participants, as many runners found themselves confused and lost.
Another common issue was the insufficient number of shuttle buses for the return trip, with participants urging organizers to hire more vehicles for future editions of the race.
Overall, many of the athletes considered this event one of the toughest, due to the challenging uphill course, and hope that these points will be addressed for the 2025 edition.
