At the age of 80, renowned Rosarito businessman and philanthropist Lupe Pérez García passed away on the night of Nov. 12 in a tragic accident at the boardwalk in La Paz, Baja California Sur.
According to reports from local media in the area, he died at the general hospital after being struck by a vehicle driven by a minor while crossing the street.
His passing caused deep sorrow in the Rosarito community and brought to mind his significant contributions to various social causes, as well as his legacy of personal and entrepreneurial success.
Having arrived in Rosarito as a young boy, he became known for a singular phrase that captured his determination to succeed.
As a promise to himself, he once declared that the only five dollars he had were enough to start working. This commitment marked the beginning of a lifetime of hard work that ultimately made him a renowned restaurateur and a pioneer in the development of tourism in Rosarito.
He worked alongside notable figures such as Hugo Eduardo Torres (Chabert, with whom he developed a strong friendship and who passed away this October.
Mr. Pérez was known for his humanity, honesty, gratitude, and generosity, and he was a benefactor of numerous social causes. He was also dedicated to the advancement of his employees, offering scholarships to support their education.
His life and success story have been a source of inspiration for many, showcasing his perseverance and tireless entrepreneurial spirit, which led him to establish prominent restaurant businesses.
His passion for rustic designs in his ventures has become a hallmark of Rosarito’s tourism development.
For his employees, he will be remembered as a visionary leader with a generous heart. For his children, he was a role model—a father committed to instilling values, principles, hard work, and honesty in his family.
Earlier this year, his wife also passed away. He is survived by his children Omar, Carlos, Josefina, Maricela, and Lupita. May Lupe Pérez rest in peace (1944–2024).
