Lourdes Pequeño Gutiérrez, director of the Municipal Women’s Institute (INMUJER), praised the recent approval of the Comprehensive Program for the Prevention and Eradication of Violence Against Women in Playas de Rosarito, an initiative aimed at eliminating violence against women in public spaces.
The initiative was passed in the final days of the ninth city council of Rosarito.
“This program aligns with federal and state guidelines for implementing specific actions at the municipal level, with additional measures in coordination with the state, all with a gender perspective,” she said.
She explained that the initiative outlines clear actions for each department to incorporate into their operational programs, ensuring that women’s issues and rights are addressed.
The initiative, which she drafted with the support of a professional team, makes Rosarito the second municipality in Baja California to establish a legal framework for addressing and eradicating violence against women in public spheres.
The newly elected government will be responsible for ensuring the program is fully enforced.
“It was a thorough process, but it’s now in place,” she said. “We are the second municipality with this program—the first was Tijuana. Now it’s up to us to follow through.
“This initiative provides a guide and roadmap for the next administration to implement programs and actions to combat gender-based violence and address the actions required under the femicide alert in Baja California,” she concluded.
