In commemoration of the International Day of Indigenous Peoples, the inauguration of the photographic exhibition “Those who remain: Yumanos essence of Baja California” was held.

 The work of photographer Jorge Sanchez Navarro, it is in the academic area of ​​the State Center for the Arts (CEART).

The councilor of the Commission on Indigenous Affairs, Sandra Jimenez, expressed that the commemoration provides the opportunity to raise awareness in society about topics of great interest, such as human rights, sustainable development and health.

 At the same time, unresolved problems are revealed that require the implementation of concrete political measures. 

The photographer said that he spent several months living with the native community where he was able to learn and understand the environment and with it, become part of their traditions and customs.

Coordinator Marco Nuo said that the decision to install the exhibition in the academic area is because children and students come there to take classes, and they arrive with the interest to learn.  The exhibit also promotes in this native community of Baja California.

The Yumana culture is the linguistic group from which the Cucapah, Kiliwa, Pai Pai, Kumiai, and Cochim cultures emerged.
