The Purépecha community, settled in the Constitución neighborhood, has not yet had a meeting with the team of the mayor-elect, Rocio Adame, to learn about the projects she plans to implement.
The community is interested in generating synergy with the upcoming administration.
This was expressed by community leader Lázaro Guzman, who said they remain hopeful that this new administration will address issues affecting the community, such as job opportunities, social support, and the preservation of green spaces and courts where they hold their traditional celebrations.
“So far, we haven’t had a conversation with her, but I hope we will soon to see what projects she has for the community and work together, which is what the community is interested in,” he said,
He pointed out that they are expecting a strategic plan to preserve the area around the community’s court adjacent to the San Gerónimo Chapel, an important site for the community to gather and preserve its culture and traditions.
“We’ve always had a problem with graffiti, and we continue to fight against it,” he said. “We need more public security, but once the new mayor takes office, this will be an important project for the conservation of the green area.”
Guzman noted that due to internal migration, the population of the Purépecha community in the Constitución neighborhood has increased. However, others return to their place of origin, so the population fluctuates.
Nevertheless, it is important to support this community for its preservation, ensuring “that there is respect and that the strengthening of our cultural identity continues,” he said.
