For the first time, Rosarito has acquired a light rescue unit equipped with all the tools for vehicle rescues, cliff rescues, and other types of accidents.
The purpose of obtaining this 2011 model unit is to provide faster and more timely access to incidents, said Carlos Arturo García Ames, director of Civil Protection and Municipal Firefighters.
“We have rescue equipment, but it’s on the fire engines or heavy extinguishing machines,” he said.
“Fortunately, we have plenty of personnel trained by certified instructors, and we also have instructors in some other departments that are part of the firefighters.”
This light unit includes space for five passengers, special compartments, and it is designed to withstand considerable weight. Additionally, it is equipped with gear for rope rescues and hydraulic equipment for accident response. It will be operated by personnel who are also trained or certified as paramedics.
The director noted that so far this year, they have conducted 12 rescues on El Coronel Hill, as well as various vehicle accidents and cliff rescues.
