With a horseback parade, rodeo performances, and live music from regional norteño bands, the Rosarito City Government joined residents in celebrating the 141st anniversary of the founding of Playas de Rosarito on Sunday, May 17.

The festivities were open to the public and drew strong participation from across the community, including members of the local cowboy culture, Rosarito families, ejido residents, event participants, and visitors.

The celebration began in the morning with a horseback procession of approximately 200 riders departing from City Hall and making its way to the Lienzo Charro arena, where the day’s festivities continued.

While some riders joined at the starting point, others entered along the route, turning the parade into a popular attraction for tourists and local businesses, with spectators stopping to take photos and applaud as the riders passed by.

Thanks to traffic and public safety measures implemented by police and mobility officials, the procession moved smoothly without causing significant congestion or prolonged traffic delays.

The Department of Urban Services also deployed cleanup crews along Benito Juárez Boulevard to remove waste left behind by the horses during the parade.

In the afternoon, hundreds of attendees gathered at the Lienzo Charro to watch rodeo events showcasing a cowboy tradition deeply rooted in Rosarito’s cultural identity and one that continues to be passed on to younger generations.

Children and teenagers as young as 11 years old, already involved in the sport, took part in the competition, highlighting the continued participation of younger generations in the rodeo tradition.

Mayor Rocío Adame Muñoz led the official ceremony, which included a traditional blessing performed by members of the Kumiai community.

As evening approached, the celebration continued with performances by norteño music groups and a concert by Explosión Norteña, with attendees gathering for music and dancing throughout the evening.

The anniversary celebration highlighted both Rosarito’s history and the enduring traditions that continue to unite the community more than a century after its founding.
