Repairs will begin Monday on the athletic track at the Profesor Andrés Luna sports complex in the Reforma neighborhood, according to Francisco Carrasco, director of the Municipal Sports Institute. Carrasco said the city already has the materials needed to replace damaged sections of the tartan surface.

“The worn-out areas will be replaced with higher-quality material,” he noted, adding that the track will remain open during the work. Users will simply be asked to avoid stepping on the repaired sections until they are ready for use.

This is the only athletic track in the municipality, and it draws hundreds of Rosarito residents in the mornings and evenings, whether for walking, jogging or running.

In related efforts, two abandoned trucks located next to the track were towed away this week—one that had long occupied scarce parking spots in the crowded afternoon hours, and another that had been burned during the previous administration. Both vehicles were deemed unusable and removed from the complex Tuesday afternoon.

Other recent improvements include reupholstering the gym equipment inside the facility, giving the space a cleaner and more inviting look.

Carrasco also reported that bathrooms were rehabilitated at the Purépecha Community Center and the Tonanzin Community Center, and graffiti was removed over the past weekend. In total, maintenance work was carried out at nine sports facilities—part of what he described as “constant and ongoing” repairs.
