In an effort to connect tourism buyers with local service providers, the Secretariat of Economic Development and Tourism has announced a new event called “Destination Presentation.”

The event is designed as a business networking forum that will bring together travel package companies and Rosarito’s tourism sector, including hotels, restaurants, artisans, ecotourism operators, and other tourism-related businesses.

The event will take place June 20 at the Castillos del Mar resort complex.

Irán Leonardo Verdugo Contreras, Secretary of Economic Development and Tourism, said participating organizations will include companies that market travel packages and tourism services, among them the Baja California Hosts and Tour Operators Association (AATOP) and the Mexican Association of Destination Management Companies (DMC), which represents leading agencies specializing in tourism logistics, corporate events, conventions, and incentive travel throughout Mexico.

Tourism entrepreneurs from across Baja California, along with several national online travel package providers, are also expected to attend.

“The goal is for these companies, which serve as buyers, to meet with local tourism providers and create new business opportunities,” Verdugo Contreras said.

“We want to create a networking environment where Rosarito’s tourism industry—including hotels, restaurants, artisans, tourism routes, and adventure tourism operators in areas such as Los Alisitos and Santa Anita—can connect directly with tour operators and travel companies from across the state to establish commercial partnerships.”

According to Verdugo Contreras, the program will begin with a destination presentation, followed by a culinary showcase and cocktail reception for participating tour operators.

“In many ways, it will function as a local tourism marketplace, where Rosarito’s tourism businesses can present their products and services to companies that help generate visitor traffic throughout Baja California,” he said.

Verdugo Contreras explained that the initiative is part of a broader strategy to strengthen domestic tourism amid a decline in visitors from Southern California, traditionally one of Rosarito’s most important tourism markets.

“We need a healthy balance in our visitor base,” he said. “Strengthening both the state and national tourism markets helps sustain the industry during challenging periods while continuing to position tourism as a key driver of the local economy.”

He added that conversations with the Baja California Hosts and Tour Operators Association highlighted the importance of familiarizing tour operators with Rosarito’s full range of tourism offerings.

“Lobster, the beaches, and La Misión are already well known,” he said. “What we need is for visitors to experience everything Rosarito has to offer through well-designed travel packages that combine accommodations, attractions, and local experiences.”
