With a giant cake and heartfelt tributes to the citizens’ movement that led to the creation of Baja California’s Fifth Municipality, the 30th anniversary of Playas de Rosarito was celebrated with a formal event at the government palace courtyard.

The festivities began the previous Friday with a symbolic lighting ceremony at the Municipalists’ Obelisk, located on the Pemex Bridge—an initiative organized by the Comité Pro Municipio. On Sunday, June 29, floral offerings, an honor guard, and a civic ceremony were held in the main government plaza to continue the commemorations.

“Rosarito is much more than its boulevards and beaches; there’s also a Rosarito up in the hills, with ranches and incredible regional cuisine,” said Mayor Rocío Adame Muñoz as she honored three decades of municipal life in Playas de Rosarito.

Mayor Adame emphasized Rosarito’s rich history and culture as something to proudly share with the world. She called on attendees to continue writing “a better, brighter chapter in the history of our beloved municipality.”

“Rosarito is the place many have chosen to grow and thrive with their families,” she added.

Honorary city chronicler Juvenal Arias Pérez also addressed the audience, stating: “The birth of Playas de Rosarito was a matter of dignity and freedom.” He paid tribute to the original municipalist leaders and the legacy continued by the Comité Pro Municipio.

Several former mayors attended the ceremony, including Silvano Abarca, Luis Enrique Díaz, and Antonio Macías, along with numerous special guests.

Representatives from the business sector—Gustavo Torres Ramírez, Juan Santana Bosquett, and Octavio Machado—were also present, as well as descendants of the region’s original Kumiai families and early ranching communities. Delegates representing Rosarito’s commercial, industrial, and tourism sectors were likewise in attendance, highlighting the city’s multifaceted development over the years.
