The civil association Unión y Amistad por Fútbol (soccer) aims to preserve the history of football in Rosarito by holding its first awards ceremony to recognize the city’s historical football figures.
Víctor Chew, a spokesperson for the association, explained that the primary goal of the civil association is to document the history of Rosarito and Baja California while publicly acknowledging those historical figures who have dedicated part of their lives to promoting football.
On Saturday, Sept. 7 the group held a tribute and awards presentation for 22 individuals at the Monarca event hall, starting at 1pm.
Jesus González, president of the association and advisor to the Rosarito Minor Football League, emphasized the importance of creating opportunities for young people to continue in the sport.
He noted that they will meet with the newly elected mayor to discuss their concerns. González also highlighted the positive impact of local sports clubs, which have improved the sport in the area, and expressed that former athletes now serve as spokespersons for the community.
He acknowledged the role of sports clubs in fostering civic and athletic development among children participating in the minor league.
Chew also mentioned the association’s aspiration to eventually establish a Hall of Fame, which would support social events and altruistic projects to benefit the community.
