Members of the U.S. Consulate in Tijuana, specifically from the Vehicle Recovery Unit, met with city authorities to strengthen cooperation and address concerns important to the large American community residing in the city, as well as visitors.

According to Gabriela Rincón Sotelo, head of the Office of Foreign Resident Affairs (FRAO), the meeting aimed to improve coordination between the City Council and the Consulate to facilitate the recovery of vehicles for U.S. tourists visiting Rosarito, after their cars have been towed due to traffic violations.

“We have enhanced our coordination, and now we know exactly what to do when, for example, an American travels to Rosarito in a rental car,” she said.

“We know we must immediately notify the Consulate with details of the vehicle, such as color, license plate number, and registration number, so the Consulate can verify information with the insurance company and proceed with the vehicle recovery process.”

Typically, the traffic violations committed by these American visitors involve parking in prohibited areas, such as in front of garage doors or in spaces reserved for businesses.

She highlighted the importance of this meeting in addressing municipal traffic issues that affect tourists.

For their part, U.S. Consulate personnel expressed their willingness to collaborate with municipal authorities to ensure the well-being of their citizens by intensifying inter-institutional communication and providing timely information to foreign residents.
