The Rosarito Beach Hotel has announced its centennial celebration “A Hundred Years of History,” a journey through history to recall its evolution over the century.
Officials, friends, and members of the press joined Hugo Antonio Torres, president of the board of directors of the hotel, in a press conference where details of the main event were unveiled.

The highlight of the celebration will be “La Fiesta del Siglo” featuring the renowned Tiko’s Big Band, Saturday, July 20th, starting at 6pm in the gardens of the hotel.
For more information about ticket sales for the grand concert, interested parties can contact 661-612-1126 or 1-800-265-2322, or visit the hotel.
Gustavo Valdez and Carlos Keller, representatives of Tiko’s, said they have prepared a musical repertoire to commemorate the origins of the hotel, from the 1920s to the present day.
“It will be a musical historic journey to highlight the history of the hotel through music. Being a border city, it will be a binational concert, as we will have musicians from both sides of the border performing in English and Spanish,” they explained.
Mr. Torres, successor in the administration of this pioneering company in the tourist development of Rosarito and Baja California, presented a projection of old photographs illustrating the origins and evolution of the hotel.
He recalled anecdotes, challenges, and crises the hotel had to overcome, such as the economic depression of 1929, which motivated Manuel Barbachano to purchase the property where the hotel stands today.
He recalled the love story between Manuel Barbachano and Mr. Torres’ aunt, María Luisa Chabert, whom he would marry, a union that gave birth to the present day hotel, which initially had 10 rooms and a single shared bathroom.
“The most important date for me is 1937, the year Manuel Barbachano and María Luisa fell in love, got married, and decided to make a life in Rosarito,” Mr. Torres said.
“He promised to build her a palace on the beach, and he fulfilled it by constructing the palace where the spa and Chabert restaurant are now, and that’s when they decided to build the lobby of the hotel,” he explained.
Another anecdote he shared was the construction of an airstrip in front of the hotel during the post-World War II period to attract Hollywood tourism and other international celebrities.
He gave a special mention to his father, Hugo Eduardo Torres (Chabert), who led the company for 46 years until 2020, initiating a period of renewal that has been distinguished by preserving its artistic and historical identity.
“This event is an opportunity to honor not only our past but also our present and look forward to a promising future,” Mr. Torres said of his father, now 87.
“This It is a moment to remember and share stories, generations of guests who continue to come to Rosarito, an opportunity to thank all our clients and friends,” said Mr. Torres.
The event was attended by José de Jesús Quiñonez Ramírez, Undersecretary of Tourism of Baja California; Martha Mendoza Montes, tourism delegate in the metropolitan area; and Silvia Dagnino, acting director of the Tourism and Conventions Committee of Rosarito.
