Rosy Torres Ramírez, founding president of Rosarito’s emblematic and internationally recognized “Club de Niños y Niñas” (Boys & Girls Club), presented a full report on the project’s progress and impact within the local community.

“In addition to the various workshops we offer for the benefit of children, we have a team of psychologists providing personalized care for all the kids,” Torres said.

She also acknowledged that the organization faces “enormous financial needs,” explaining that committed sponsors are essential to support the education and development of the children involved. The cost per child at the Boys & Girls Club is roughly 100 pesos (about $6) per month.

Torres, a racquetball champion, shared that during the previous city administration, then-mayor Araceli Brown publicly criticized the organization. “She accused us of doing nothing and getting rich off the Boys & Girls Club,” Torres said.

“We have a weekly payroll of 35,000 pesos (around $2,000), and today it’s a struggle to meet that because many of our sponsors left due to security concerns. Fortunately, some are starting to return,” she added.

Promoting the Club and its mission more widely remains a key goal.

This year, plans include hosting a media tour of the facility, as well as organizing a friendly soccer tournament between club members and local journalists from Rosarito’s press and media organizations.
