In preparation for the upcoming Tianguis Turístico 2025, the first phase of the restoration of the Puerto Nuevo Museum has been completed. This initial stage included cleaning and structural recovery of the building, which had suffered significant damage to walls, electrical and plumbing systems, restrooms, windows, flooring, ceilings, and other key infrastructure.

Alan Bautista, city councilman and member of the Tourism Commission in Puerto Nuevo, credited Mayor Rocio Adame for championing the project.

A total of 2.5 million pesos was secured through the State Secretariat of Economic Development. In a recent council session, an additional 800,000 pesos were approved to develop the museum’s exhibitions across various spaces within the facility.

One exhibition hall will be curated by the Artificial Reefs Museum of Playas de Rosarito (MUSAR), showcasing the story of the Uribe ship, which was deliberately sunk to form an artificial reef.

The exhibit will also feature the marine life of Bahía del Descanso and highlight regional sea fauna. Another hall, under the direction of the Municipal Institute of Art and Culture, will present a temporary exhibition of works by local visual artists from Rosarito.

The museum will also include a tourist information center and a public safety booth to support Puerto Nuevo’s designation as a tourist district.

As part of the cultural programming for Tianguis Turístico 2025, the museum’s plaza will host folkloric dance performances, live music, and artistic showcases, coordinated by the Municipal Institute of Art and Culture in collaboration with the State Center for the Arts.

Plans are also underway for a mural that will depict the rich history of Puerto Nuevo. Councilman Bautista noted the positive momentum generated by the project, emphasizing that the improvements will give Rosarito—and especially Puerto Nuevo—a refreshed image.

Combined with recent road renovations, the project has been warmly welcomed by residents and restaurant owners alike.
