The Madrugadores group, chaired by Miguel Ángel Lazcano Campos, approved during their assembly to support the association Olas para Todos, which provides free surfing therapy to children with disabilities.

The proposal was approved in the Wednesday, November 26 session following a moving presentation by Olas para Todos president Carlos Luna Duarte, who spoke about the care and attention provided to children with disabilities.

The renowned surfer shared the remarkable progress his students have achieved through surfing therapies, leaving expert psychologists astonished—though unable to fully explain the results, they acknowledged the program’s effectiveness.

Carlos Luna Duarte explained that the surfing therapies for children with disabilities were implemented thanks to a program proposed by a Chilean expert who participated in an exchange at UABC while training in the Faculty of Sports. Drawn to the work of Olas para Todos, the academic approached Luna Duarte to present the idea of surfing therapies for children with disabilities.

Thanks to these therapies, many children with autism or other disabilities have experienced impressive improvements. For example, some children have begun speaking or overcoming language barriers.

This progress occurs because interacting with the waves during surfing therapy stimulates the children’s bodies to release substances that induce happiness, such as adrenaline, serotonin, and endorphins, helping them overcome challenges and improve their quality of life.

The success of this program is being replicated in other cities across Mexico, positioning Olas para Todos as a pioneering organization in therapeutic programs for people with disabilities.

After learning about these results, the Madrugadores group approved exploring support for the Olas para Todos program with a donation in 2026.
