Motivated by a desire to continue opening doors for diverse youth, Ricardo Slim Hernández Álcaraz has been selected to join the newly formed National Council for Youth Diversity and Inclusion, a citizen advisory body that monitors public policies affecting young people.

The council, coordinated by the Mexican Institute of Youth, is made up of only ten young people from across the country. Ricardo Slim will represent diversity and inclusion at the national level for the 2026–2027 term, working within the council to develop proposals and initiatives focused on youth.

“I was selected through a national process convened by the Mexican Institute of Youth. I presented my professional background, my work in sexual diversity, human rights, and youth participation, as well as my additional training with the National Human Rights Commission. The evaluation committee reviewed profiles from across the country and chose only ten members to form the new council. Knowing that my work in Baja California was recognized nationally fills me with both pride and responsibility,” said the Rosarito resident and law school graduate.

Ricardo explained that over the past six years he has witnessed firsthand the needs, struggles, and inequalities faced by the community, particularly in issues of sexual diversity and human rights. “Participating in this process was both an emotional and conscious decision: I wanted our stories, challenges, and voices to be present in a space where national public policies are truly designed and evaluated.”

He was also motivated by a conviction that public service and civic participation can transform lives. “I have worked at the local level in Baja California, and I felt it was time to take a step toward the national stage to broaden the impact and create real solutions for young people across the country.”

His immediate goal is to promote a strong, clear agenda with a human rights perspective that puts diverse youth at the center. “I want to ensure that public policies include protection, prevention, opportunities, and visibility for those who have historically been marginalized.”

Additionally, Ricardo aims to strengthen connections between the youth of Baja California and national platforms, demonstrating that strong and committed leadership can emerge from the region. “My purpose is that, by the end of this term, there will be tangible, measurable progress that directly benefits young people across Mexico.”
