Starting in the second week of November, Tijuana will open a new border-crossing entrance via Calle Segunda exclusively for Sentri program users — a move expected to ease heavy border traffic and improve mobility in the downtown area.

Municipal Economic Development Secretary Pedro Montejo Peterson announced the measure as part of a broader reconfiguration of border access routes meant to speed border crossings and prevent drivers coming from Playas de Tijuana and Rosarito from being forced into the downtown zone.

“We want mobility to become faster and more orderly, both for residents and for those who cross daily,” Montejo Peterson said.

With this adjustment, Calle Segunda will be dedicated to Sentri traffic, Padre Kino will continue serving Sentri users, and the “All Traffic” lane will remain available from Paseo de los Héroes.

According to municipal data, approximately 600,000 vehicles use the Sentri lane every month — a volume similar to the Ready Lane — so the new configuration aims to better distribute traffic across key border routes.

Montejo added that future congestion-relief projects along Vía Rápida Oriente will depend on the 2026 budget, which includes new cross-border infrastructure to strengthen regional connectivity.

With this new access point, Tijuana aims to offer a faster, safer, and more efficient crossing experience for the thousands of drivers who keep the binational economy moving every day.
