Proyecto Celene invites the community to “Run with Your Heart for Them”
The nonprofit organization Proyecto Celene A.C. is inviting the public to take part in its annual Run with Your Heart for Them walk and race, held in observance of the International Day for Breast Cancer Prevention.
The event will take place on Friday, October 18, at 8 a.m., starting and finishing in the parking lot of Pabellón Rosarito shopping center. According to Francisco Sandoval Deras, president of the organization, the race and walk will follow a route from the plaza to the Emiliano Zapata Fields along Benito Juárez Boulevard, then return to the starting point.
At the finish line, participants will find informational booths, preventive health services, and free vouchers for mammograms.
Organizers expect more than 200 participants this year. Funds raised will help cover transportation and medication expenses for five cancer patients currently supported by Proyecto Celene. The association also provides between 80 and 100 vouchers each month for mammograms and breast ultrasounds.
Registration for the race or walk costs 200 pesos per person, and bib numbers will be available before the event begins.
Sandoval Deras added that prior to this event, members of the organization visited their community health clinic in Tecuala, Nayarit, where they carried out breast cancer awareness activities, emphasizing that early detection saves lives.
Warning signs and prevention
Early warning signs of breast cancer include unusual discharge, skin dimpling (orange-peel texture), indentations, asymmetry, visible veins, redness, or burning sensations.
Women are encouraged to monitor their health beginning at age 20 by performing monthly self-examinations. Starting at age 25, they should have an annual clinical breast exam, and from ages 40 to 69, it is recommended to get a mammogram every two years—if there is no family history of breast cancer.
