Next month, during Mexico’s Independence Day celebrations, Rosarito will unveil a new historical mural at its municipal building — a project promoted by the Comité Pro Municipio, confirmed the group’s president, Nancy Hernández Villelas.

The committee, which marked Rosarito’s 30th anniversary as a municipality in July with conferences and youth-focused events, says the mural will serve as both an artistic and educational tribute to the city’s past.

Working alongside renowned visual artist Carlos Delgado of Primo Tapia and Secretary of Government José Luis Alcalá Murillo, the group has finalized the location and schedule for the project, which will be painted on the third floor of the municipal building.

“Secretary Alcalá was impressed when he reviewed the sketch, especially how the layout makes the most of the space,” Hernández said. “We’re certain the final result will be spectacular.”

The mural will depict the key stages of Rosarito’s history, from the era of its first Kumiai inhabitants, through the Mission period, the ranching years, the rise of tourism, the municipal movement, and into the modern industrial era — as outlined by the city’s official historian, Juvenal Arias Pérez.

The artist is expected to begin work this week, with the finished mural set to debut next month during the Fiestas Patrias.
