In recognition of Mexico’s Freedom of Expression Day on June 7, Mayor Rocío Adame Muñoz met with local journalists to acknowledge their essential role as a bridge between society and government.
Speaking candidly, Adame emphasized that the task of informing the public carries a profound responsibility—one that should always aim at building a stronger, more unified municipality.
She encouraged journalists to carry out their work with integrity and to resist being influenced by groups “that are determined to tear down and undermine this administration.”
“For me, the work you do is incredibly important,” she said. “It’s an extension of what we do every day—communicating with the public about the progress we’re making.”
The mayor also called for continued collaboration between the press and local authorities, asking reporters to help spread awareness of government actions and community projects.
“We’re constantly exposed to criticism,” she acknowledged. “We can do a hundred good things, but one misstep—sometimes due to a lack of proper communication—can overshadow everything. Often, these are issues beyond our direct control.”
She asked that journalists take the broader context into account when reporting on local government actions, and to avoid letting isolated missteps define an entire administration.
Adame also reaffirmed her administration’s commitment to transparency and fiscal responsibility, noting that public resources are being directed toward the most urgent community needs.
“Please continue to consider the work we’re doing, and let’s open the conversation to the public—always with the goal of building a better municipality,” she said. “Let’s not allow those who want to destroy to win.”
