In an effort to promote sportfishing among children, the Baja California State Secretariat of Fisheries and Aquaculture, in coordination with local fishing clubs and the Rosarito municipal government, hosted a youth sportfishing clinic on Sunday, April 20, at the city’s municipal auditorium.

Much like the recent nationwide public boxing class initiative, the clinic served as an educational activity designed to give children and teenagers their first hands-on experience with sportfishing, aiming to spark their interest in the sport.

Renowned sportfishing instructors from “Tj Fishing Club,” the State Association of Fishing Clubs, and the State Directorate of Fisheries led four instructional modules. The sessions covered knot-tying and hook-and-line casting techniques, as well as sustainable fishing practices, including how to identify catchable species and understand the minimum size limits required to protect marine life.

Participants then practiced casting in the pool at the municipal sports complex.

Mayor Rocío Adame Muñoz highlighted the importance of offering children and youth constructive alternatives that support both their physical development and positive engagement.
