The Rosarito Fire Department and Civil Protection Directorate reported no major damage or incidents following a 5.2-magnitude earthquake that struck on the morning of Monday, April 14. The epicenter was located near San Diego, but the tremor was strongly felt in Rosarito.

Government buildings were evacuated after the earthquake alarm was triggered, and the emergency protocol was carried out smoothly. Only one person was reported to have suffered a nervous episode at the State Government offices.

City Hall employees began evacuating even before the alarm sounded, following established drill protocols and gathering in the designated outdoor parking area.

Civil Protection teams proceeded to inspect buildings for any structural damage.

Joaquín Mercado de Santiago, head of Civil Protection and the Fire Department, reminded the public that Baja California lies within a seismic zone due to the presence of the San Andreas Fault, and stressed the importance of preparedness.

“We will continue with regular earthquake drills—they are the best way to stay ready and ensure everything runs smoothly. Fortunately, everyone followed instructions well during the evacuation, both government employees and members of the public,” he said.
