With the vacation season approaching, hotel owners, merchants, and entrepreneurs gathered for the annual breakfast hosted by the Red Cross, united by a shared goal: to raise funds to keep ambulance services running in Rosarito.

The 2025 fundraising campaign aims to surpass half a million pesos in donations to sustain operations of five ambulances, ensuring they can continue to respond to emergency calls.

Rubén Rosiñol Monges, Baja California’s Red Cross delegate, acknowledged the critical role played by the Rosarito delegation. He noted that covering medical staff payroll has become increasingly challenging and credited the expatriate resident community in Primo Tapia with supporting an ambulance dedicated to patient transfers.

He also mentioned ongoing efforts to reinstate donations to the Red Cross through vehicle registration and driver’s license renewals—contributions that were significantly reduced five years ago.

Mr. Rosiñol reminded attendees that the campaign will conclude in May, underscoring the importance of community participation, as anyone may require emergency services at some point.

During the event, Hugo Antonio Torre, Chairman of the Board of the Rosarito Hotel, praised the work of paramedics and volunteers.

He acknowledged that, despite the difficulties faced by the tourism sector—due to declining visitor numbers impacted by economic, political, and security concerns—supporting the Red Cross remains essential, as it reliably responds to emergency calls.

He also paid tribute to his father, Hugo Eduardo Torres, who supported the Red Cross year after year, recognizing the institution’s vital role not only for the tourism industry but for the community as a whole.

Sergio Conrado Hernández Tovalín, Director of the Rosarito Red Cross Board, encouraged all citizens to visit the organization’s facilities and learn more about the services offered, assuring them that donations are transparently invested in community care.
