In response to the lack of effective beach patrol coordination by the Rosarito City Council, the ZOFEMAT Fund team has taken on double duties to help maintain clean beaches.
In addition to cleaning and conserving the beach, ZOFEMAT employees have had to perform patrol duties to ensure compliance with beach regulations.
After a holiday weekend left the beaches littered with trash, the team carried out operations to remove homeless individuals and the waste they generate, as well as extinguishing bonfires and other prohibited items on the beach.
This is an ongoing effort to ensure that homeless individuals do not return, and that beachgoers avoid making bonfires or bringing prohibited items like glass bottles.
Instead of standing idly by in the absence of regular beach patrols, the ZOFEMAT brigades have intensified their efforts to assist with these tasks, which do not fall under their direct responsibilities.
Throughout the week, members of the beach cleaning and conservation team were seen conducting operations in areas where homeless individuals typically camp overnight.
At the same time, they carried out beach cleaning duties, a Herculean effort for the mere 16 employees that make up the ZOFEMAT team, responsible for cleaning the entire Rosarito coastline, from the Tijuana border to La Misión.
