Free October Festival concert on October 9 will feature works by Samuel Barber and Franz Schubert, followed by dance and community music events
The Baja California Orchestra will perform “Music for Strings” at Centro Estatal de las Artes (CEART) Playas de Rosarito on Friday, October 9, as part of the 2026 October Festival, “Territories of Peace.”
The free concert begins at 7 p.m. in CEART’s multipurpose hall and will be conducted by Maestro Armando Pesqueira.
The string ensemble’s program features two major works of the chamber music repertoire: Samuel Barber’s Adagio for Strings, Op. 11, known for its emotional intensity and expressive sound, and Franz Schubert’s String Quartet No. 14 in D minor, D. 810, known as Death and the Maiden, a work noted for its dramatic contrasts and musical depth.
The festival’s program also includes a performance by the Winds, Piano and Percussion Ensemble, featuring works from different musical periods and traditions. The repertoire includes Tres danzas cubanas by Manuel Samuel, Amusette by Yves Verne, Sarabande en Menuet, Op. 72, by Vincent d’Indy, and Francis Poulenc’s Sextet.
Additional events are scheduled in Rosarito throughout October. On Sunday, October 11, at 4 p.m., CEART will present “Efímero, experiencias estéticas del cuerpo,” a dance performance combining movement, multimedia projections and interactive technology to explore themes of grief, transition, borders and departure.
On Saturday, October 17, at 4 p.m., Parque José Cruz Navarro in Primo Tapia will host “Sounds of the Pacific,” featuring the Wa Kuatay Orchestra and Choir, made up of children and young people from the State Music System.
