No incidents of theft or vandalism were reported at Rosarito schools during the summer break, according to the Education Secretariat, as 25,746 students returned to classrooms Monday for the start of the 2026–27 school year.

Officials attributed the clean record to coordination among the three levels of government and preventive patrols carried out by the Municipal Secretariat of Citizen Security.

Students returned to 145 public and private schools across Rosarito, accompanied by approximately 1,100 teachers.

The information was announced during the official opening of the school year at Raquel Gómez Márquez Preschool in the third section of Colonia Constitución.

Juan Carlos Huerta Ávila, Rosarito’s education delegate, highlighted the operational and logistical efforts carried out by the local education office to prepare schools and welcome students at all basic education levels.

Huerta called on parents to become more involved in their children’s education and participate in school activities. He noted that school parent councils are being formed this month.

He also encouraged families to enroll their children in preschool, emphasizing the importance of an early introduction to education.

According to Huerta, some parents may hesitate to enroll their children because of the cost of school supplies. However, he noted that scholarships and other forms of government assistance are available through the three levels of government.

Preschool classrooms can accommodate up to 27 students, he said, but some currently have only 17.

During the ceremony, Mayor Rocío Adame Muñoz said 14 schools are benefiting from the Multiple Contributions Fund program, which supports school infrastructure.

She also recognized teachers for their commitment as they return to the classroom and said her administration will maintain close cooperation with the education sector to strengthen school safety, infrastructure and social development throughout the new school year.
