One of Rosarito’s most important green spaces, Parque Conchita Cantú in the Reforma neighborhood, has reached its 25th anniversary.
With enthusiasm and a strong sense of community, Mayor Rocío Adame led the celebration, highlighting the park’s role for more than two decades as a gathering place for recreation, family life, and neighborhood pride.
During the ceremony, the Mayor emphasized the importance of preserving and strengthening public spaces that foster social connection and community well-being. She also recognized the essential role of residents in caring for the park, which has become part of Rosarito’s history and identity.
“Together—through coordination and teamwork between the community and the municipality—spaces like this become examples of successful collaboration. Thanks to the commitment of Rosarito residents, we continue building a more united city with a strong sense of belonging,” Mayor Adame said.
The event held added significance as it also celebrated the 90th birthday of Mrs. Conchita Cantú, who was warmly honored by family, neighbors, and local authorities.
Mrs. Cantú thanked the municipal government for assigning three Public Works staff members to support maintenance, explaining that previously only one person was responsible for caring for the park’s six hectares.
She also expressed regret that 7 million pesos granted by the federal government during the final months of Luis Enrique Díaz’s administration were lost—funds originally earmarked to complete park renovations. Some facilities, she noted, were not properly built. The event hall is currently closed due to structural issues, while the bathrooms and office remain functional thanks to repairs she has funded personally, along with staff she pays herself.
Mrs. Cantú recalled that the site was once a dumping ground, but with support from the municipal government during Mayor Silvano Abarca’s term, it was transformed into a park, including the donation of 60 palm trees by CESPT, which were planted by utility staff.
She closed by thanking Public Works employees for maintaining the park as best as possible with the resources available.
