A series of conferences addressing various family-related topics took place simultaneously at Casa Municipal in honor of Family Day, celebrated on the first Sunday of March.

These activities were organized by the Family Commission in collaboration with several municipal organizations.

One of the key conferences, High-Performance Parents, was led by Maricruz Cuevas, mother of Rosarito swimmers Maximiliano and Rogelio Cuevas, who have represented Rosarito in national and international competitions, earning high placements.

Maricruz shared her personal journey as the mother of two high-performance athletes, highlighting the sacrifices, challenges, and unwavering support she provided for her children. Although the path was not easy, she affirmed that maternal love made it all worthwhile.

As the mother of Rosarito’s most decorated national Olympiad swimmer, she emphasized the importance of identifying why a child wants to pursue high-performance sports, as it differs significantly from recreational athletics.

“Giving up is not an option here,” she told her son when she committed to supporting him—a lesson that ultimately became her own.

She learned from Maximiliano the sacrifice of setting aside social life to achieve his dream of becoming a competitive athlete. Meanwhile, with Rogelio, she discovered that “changing goals is okay,” as he initially swam to maintain a social life, prioritizing friendships over medals, until he later redefined his ambitions.

In addition to this talk, other conferences covered topics such as Women’s Human Rights, Rules for Effective Communication, Empty Nest Syndrome, Women Entrepreneurs, and a Self-Defense Workshop.
