A tribute was paid to outstanding women in the community as part of International Women’s Day.

Councilwoman Janette Sepúlveda Carreón, the event’s organizer, emphasized the significance of this commemoration, highlighting that it not only celebrates women’s achievements in political, social, and economic spheres but also honors their resilience throughout history.

“This is a day for reflection, empathy, and a commitment to a fairer future,” she said.

The councilwoman stressed the need for understanding and solidarity with women facing inequalities, reaffirming that equality is a fundamental human right.

During the ceremony, awards were presented to women for their outstanding careers and contributions to the community, including restaurant owner Susana Plascencia de Bautista; Kumiai community representative María de los Ángeles Carrillo Silva.

Also businesswoman Norma Gutiérrez; former councilwoman and ejido leader Dora María Esquivel; head of Preventive Programs at the Citizen Security Secretariat, Nataly Jiménez Cornelio; Representative of Women with Disabilities, Jenny García Salas; Trusted Firefighter, young Akshara Licea Batista; and lifeguard Geraldine Arellano.

Additionally, the event highlighted the extensive and distinguished career of Denisse Carrión in journalism and education. Carrión has held roles as a reporter, host, editor, and professor at various institutions.
